How To Rock A Halloween Costume

European Costumes Romantic KissIn order to rock a Halloween Costume, this is what you need to know — repeat your hair color somewhere in the costume or the effect will be disconnected and scrambled.

Wearing three colors always expresses costume, exaggeration and accent.  Irenee Riter, The Science Of Personal Dress, A New Paradigm of Color and Body Analysis, states “ [w]hen three colors are combined there is a feeling of fun and aliveness which evokes action and excitement.  This is why costumes and party clothes have more colorful combinations.”

Triangle body shapes fare well in costumes since their basic silhouette lines angles in somewhere below the bust line or angles out somewhere below the bust line.  They have more leeway in extreme novelty yokes, flanges, tucks, cut-outs, flounces, Boleros, vest, corset styles and camisoles.  Triangle body shape women rock Wonder Woman, Cat woman and Pirate Wench costumes.  Triangle body shape men have that Superhero body type indicative of Superman or Batman, large shoulders tapering into an indented waistline.

Oval body shapes are classic lines with sloping shoulders and a low hipbone.  A perfect costume for an oval woman will be Cinderella or the Queen of Hearts.  A basic oval line for men is a classic elegant look, think James Bond.

Circle body shapes have sloping shoulders and a high waist.  Accent a costume with a small bodice look using a higher waistline and set in sleeves.  Also can accent with pretty flowing necklines and off-shoulder lines.  For women dress like a Gypsy or Fortune Teller, or as Marilyn Monroe.  For men dress as a Pirate or Count Dracula.

Square/Rectangle body shapes have square shoulders and a slight waist indent.  Many tall, thin rectangle women are models and look especially attractive in sleek straight lines.  You can dress as Coco Channel in a LBD!  Or, as a Flapper from The Great Gatsby.  Good suggestions for men are a Roman governor, an astronaut or Frankenstein!

Dressing as a witch or a warlock is good for all body types. A wide belted look will work for Triangles and Squares but a thin belt, no more than an inch, will be best for Ovals and Circles.  If you’d like more information, please contact me.
