Scottsdale – What To Wear When You Are There

Cowgirl looking at southwest sceneryIf you are traveling and/or moving soon to Scottsdale, AZ, you are among nearly 7 million people who do each year. Here’s what you will see the residents wearing and what you will find to buy:  Resort Wear:  Who can resist the beautiful sunrises and sunsets or the out-of-door romantic dinners?  Resort wear designers, as previewed in New York and Los Angeles, 10 Crosby Derek Lam, Jason Wu Max Mara and Azzaro are featured at Biltmore Fashion Park at the Saks 5th Avenue Store or at Scottsdale Fashion Square’s Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom stores.  The description used for the 2014 Azzaro Girl, “[T]he luxury nomad, Dubai to Saint-Tropez” fits the Scottsdale consumer.  An up-and-coming local resort ready-to-wear designer, Jose Trifilio, believes that fashion is an art.  His line takes a woman from the beach to the spotlight, turning heads all the way. LA Street Style: Many residents travel freely between the coasts and bring to Scottsdale the fashions featured in Rodeo Drive boutiques and Los Angeles department stores.  Women of means visit hair dressers in Los Angeles and possibly maintain a summer home in one of the California beach cities.  Los Angeles fashion, that chic-street fashion from the pages of InStyle, Elle and Vogue, is very influential in the Scottsdale area.  Ready-to-wear designers David Cline, LIOR Paris, Alex and Ava by Romarov, Banana U.S.A., LNA and Umgee are featured at high-end boutiques like Objects, Nové, Desertique, and Sherre’s.  With on-line shopping available at your fingertips, LA fashion is very accessible in every price range. Las Vegas Inspired: There are 69 55+ active adult communities in Arizona.  38 are in the Phoenix area.  I like to call the dress as “Las Vegas Inspired” with stone accents on the tops, dresses, jackets and jeans.  The women tend to dress comfortably, in travel wear, with embellishment.  Mother/daughter design team, Clara and Roseann Sunwoo, Clara Sun Woo Fashions as well as Adore Clothing is carried by the traveling boutique, Calle Rose.  This type of clothing can be purchased online direct from the manufacturer, but is mainly featured in community fashion shows. Honorable Mentions: The rise of ready-to-wear collections carried by independent consultants and independent stylists, CAbi (Carol Anderson by Invitation), EtCetera and Worth New York has grown in popularity among Scottsdale residents.  Convenient in-home parties with incentives to the hostess, makes a trendy wardrobe affordable. Another phenomenon is the popularity of consignment shopping.  Storefronts like My Sister’s Closet and Turnstyle as well as online TheRealReal.com boosts slightly used, in-season clothing.  The RealReal is a subscription service and carries designer-only items.  Louis Vuitton handbags, Christian Louboutin shoes, as well as Oscar de la Renta clothing can be bid on with a click of your keyboard mouse. Just a note it is rumored and this is very tight-lipped, that a Bloomindale store is due to open at the Scottsdale Quarter in 2015.  This, I believe, will up the consumer game.  If you want a tour around Scottsdale and all its wonderful shopping areas, or just want to invite me to shop, please contact me.
